About Lumen Therapeutic Services

Established to support meaningful outcomes

Lumen Therapeutic Services was established to provide high-quality Specialist Behaviour Support that is grounded in evidence, guided by human rights principles and focused on meaningful outcomes for the individuals, families and communities we support.

We recognise that behaviour does not occur in isolation. It is influenced by a person’s experiences, environment, relationships, communication, health, strengths and support systems. Effective behaviour support therefore requires more than simply addressing behaviours of concern. It requires a comprehensive understanding of the individual, their circumstances and the factors that influence their quality of life.

At Lumen Therapeutic Services, we work collaboratively with participants, families, carers, support teams and other professionals to better understand those factors and develop practical strategies that promote safety, independence, participation and wellbeing. Through assessment, consultation, capacity building and ongoing support, we assist individuals and their support networks to achieve outcomes that are both meaningful and sustainable.

Our practice is informed by contemporary Specialist Behaviour Support, neuroaffirming principles, trauma-informed approaches and evidence-based interventions. We are committed to delivering services that are respectful, person-centred and tailored to the unique goals, strengths and circumstances of each individual.

Neuroaffirming Practice

We recognise and respect neurodiversity as a natural part of human variation. Our approach focuses on understanding, supporting and empowering individuals while promoting dignity, autonomy and self-determination.

Trauma-Informed Approach

We acknowledge the impact that life experiences can have on behaviour, wellbeing and relationships. Our services are delivered in a manner that prioritises psychological safety, trust, choice and collaboration.

Evidence-Based Practice

Our work is informed by contemporary research, best practice principles and ongoing learning and quality improvement. We utilise evidence-based approaches to ensure that support strategies are effective, ethical and responsive to individual needs.

Human Rights Focused

We are committed to promoting dignity, choice and inclusion while supporting the reduction and elimination of restrictive practices wherever possible. Human rights principles underpin every aspect of our work.

Our Practice Framework

How our practice is guided

Our work is guided by a combination of evidence-based frameworks, professional standards and person-centred values that ensure support is both effective and respectful.

Specialist Behaviour Support

We utilise evidence-based Specialist Behaviour Support practices that seek to understand the underlying factors influencing behaviour and develop proactive strategies that improve quality of life and reduce the need for restrictive practices.

Neuroaffirming Practice

We recognise and value neurodiversity and seek to create environments and supports that affirm individual differences while promoting wellbeing, participation and self-determination.

Trauma-Informed Practice

We acknowledge the impact that experiences can have on behaviour and wellbeing and ensure that our approach promotes safety, trust, collaboration and empowerment.

Strength-Based Practice

We focus on identifying and building upon existing strengths, interests and capabilities rather than concentrating solely on challenges or deficits.

Human Rights Framework

We are committed to upholding the rights, dignity and autonomy of every individual and ensuring that supports are delivered in the least restrictive manner possible.

Collaborative Practice

We believe the best outcomes are achieved through partnership. By working closely with participants, families and professionals, we develop coordinated and sustainable approaches that support meaningful and lasting change.
